Heyrafiki began with a simple problem: good Care existed, but finding it, funding it and reaching the right Practitioner did not work as one journey.
We began with a text from a friend., a search for the Right Therapist., weeks spent listening to Practitioners., a decision to build the road.

At his lowest, our founder Daniel Moenga received a text from a friend. Two words: “Hey Rafiki.”
Hey, friend.
It arrived on time, from someone who knew him, and it asked for nothing. It changed the direction of a very hard season.
We named the company after that moment, because that is what we are building: the Right Help, arriving on time.

Studying in Europe, Moenga could not find a Therapist who fit him: his Language, his Story, his Budget. Back home in Kenya, the same wall stood taller. Where do you start? Which tools exist? Who is Licensed and Real? What does it cost, and why is that a secret until the invoice?
Good Care existed in both places. Reaching it was the hard part.

Moenga went to a wellness centre to seek Help and understand his own Wellbeing. He stayed for weeks, and working alongside the Experts caring for him, he started seeing the other side of the wall.
The same Practitioners holding everyone together were themselves buried: scattered tools, unpaid invoices, midnight messages across five apps. The People needed a way in. The Practitioners needed a way through. Nobody was building the road between them.

In 2024 we ran an Art Therapy pilot with more than 100 University of Nairobi students, alongside a mental wellness talk from Jennifer Kyalo, Therapist, Author and founder of Safe Space Arena. Students who would never have booked a Session spoke openly the moment the setting stopped singling them out. In that setting, stigma held far less power than we had been told it would.
The barrier was what came next. For every student who needed more than an afternoon, there was no verified Practitioner in reach, no way to fund the Session, and no record that would follow them. We have been building that missing layer ever since.

Heyrafiki connects the Person seeking Care, the Practitioner providing it and the systems that fund it.
We build it in the open, because Infrastructure that carries People through their hardest moments should be something they can inspect, and something that outlives the company that started it.
Kenya is our starting point: mobile money, multilingual Care and fragmented coverage shape the system from the beginning.
